DUBAI, 16 February 2022 – Three Malaysian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth more than USD 23.8 million with three global business partners at the Malaysia Pavilion during the country’s SME Week at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Running from 13-18 February, SME Week is being held under the theme “Start-Ups Local, End Up Global”, led by Malaysia’s Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development.
Malaysia’s Fario Holdings Sdn Bhd and Miko Koffie NV of Belgium signed the first deal, with the aim of setting up a joint venture to establish coffee processing, packing and distribution facilities.
The second agreement between Govicle Sdn Bhd and Six Day Company LLC will market and expand Govicle’s smart mobility solutions in the Middle East and explore further business opportunities.
The third agreement, between Malaysia’s PropEasy Sdn Bhd and the UAE’s Mahaley Marketing and PR Est, will see both companies cooperate on marketing efforts and identify business prospects in the UAE.
Malaysia has placed start-ups and SMEs at the centre of its mission to drive national economic development through innovation-driven companies, according to His Excellency Dato’ Suriani Binti Dato’ Ahmad, Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives.
Through Malaysia’s participation at Expo 2020 Dubai, the country has been able to revive the role of start-ups and SMEs as engines of economic growth by providing them with a platform to cooperate with potential investors and business partners, HE Dato’ Suriani Binti Dato’ Ahmad added.
A total of 17 high-performing Malaysian start-ups and SMEs – focused on artificial intelligence technology and innovation; medicine and health; and drone-related services – have been selected to be introduced to potential business partners from around the globe at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The companies will have the opportunity to be directly involved in the various activities organised at the Malaysia Pavilion during Expo 2020 Dubai, including business matching sessions, product and service introduction sessions, and business pitching to potential investors.
The net-zero carbon Malaysia Pavilion, located in Jubilee, captures the country’s commitment to balance socio-economic progress with environmental concerns, to ensure a secure and sustainable future.
The Malaysia Pavilion’s Business Centre aims to give the private sector, state enterprises and the government sector a space to meet and create trade and business opportunities.
