March 2 is Tree-planting Day in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

On March 2, Juche 35 (1946), President Kim Il Sung climbed Moran Hill in Pyongyang together with Chairman Kim Jong Il and anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk and unrolled a far-reaching plan for turning the mountains of the country, badly damaged under the Japanese imperialists’ colonial rule, into a thickly wooded paradise for the people.

The DPRK government set this day when the President kindled the flames of the tree-planting movement after Korea’s liberation as Tree-planting Day.

True to the noble patriotic intention of the President and the Chairman, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un advanced the vital tasks for turning the whole country into a thick woodland and greenery in November 2014. And he ardently called on the entire party, the whole army and all the people to turn out in a campaign for forest restoration, regarding it as a war with nature.

The DPRK people turned out as one in the forest restoration campaign, regarding the afforestation and forest conservancy as the greatest patriotic work for the future of the country.

The first-phase task of the campaign for turning all the mountains of the country into gold and treasure ones was successfully concluded and the second-phase task has been carried out from 2018.

Leading newspapers carry editorials on March 2, the Tree-Planting Day.

Rodong Sinmun in its editorial calls on all people to make remarkable progress in forest restoration this year, the first one for implementing the new five-year plan, by turning out as one in the spring tree-planting campaign with intense patriotism.

All sectors and units should bring about a decisive turn in forest restoration, an important affair related to the work for making the country more beautiful and for the future of the country, in the period of the new five-year plan in which practical changes and substantial progress should be made, the editorial says, and goes on:

Everyone should devote themselves to the spring tree-planting campaign by embodying Kim Jong Il’s patriotism.

Kim Jong Il’s patriotism, which calls for valuing and taking care of even a single blade of grass or a single tree of the country, is, indeed, mental nutrition that helps train the Korean people as genuine patriots.

All officials, members of the Workers’ Party of Korea and other working people should dedicate themselves to tree-planting with pure conscience, cherishing the noble outlooks of Chairman Kim Jong Il, who devoted his all to the country and people, on the country, its people and posterity.

They should turn all mountains of the country into golden and treasure mountains by conducting afforestation in a far-sighted way with such noble outlook on life as living not merely for today but for tomorrow so that the rising generations can benefit from them.

Minju Joson says that to cover the mountains and fields, streets and villages of the country with many trees of good species is an honorable and worthwhile patriotic work for transforming the country into a more beautiful socialist fairyland where the people enjoy happiness.
